Bailee is an artist.
Raised in Sonoma County, California, and currently based in Seattle, Washington, Bailee is a visual artist specializing in ink on paper and skin. In her painting practice, she makes the visceral visual through fluctuating line work, rhythm, and movement. Starting from a basis in figurative painting, ink and watercolor amplify the contradictory and consequential nature of the emotional experience, invoking fleeting imagery resembling waves, smoke, and ripples. She pays homage to her Northern California upbringing with subtle references to the local landscape, including redwoods, fog, and coastal flora. Sapphic imagery is at the heart of her painting practice, with the female-to-female gaze as a repeating theme. Complicated facial expressions complement the ambiguous spaces the figures inhabit, casting moody and introspective gazes at the viewer. Vulnerability is an invitation. |
